Goodyear

Even though Goodyear was founded more than 50 years ago, the vast majority of Goodyear’s housing stock is less than 10-years-old. Goodyear offers excellent residential choices ranging from affordable starter homes to a variety of upscale homes, some with detached casitas, and executive mountainside and equestrian estates. Goodyear is also a leader in the Valley in master-planned communities that offer exquisite amenities such as exclusive community centers, golf and tennis memberships, private country clubs, lakes, walking and jogging paths and mountain trails.

The largest of these master-planned communities is the extraordinary 20,000 acre community of Estrella Mountain Ranch located in the foothills of the Estrella Mountains, some seven miles south of the I-10 Freeway. This community, which is bordered by the Estrella Mountain Regional Park, offers residential hillside settings, 72 acres of lakes for fishing and boating, and 40 acres of beautifully manicured parks. Palm Valley, another of these eloquently designed communities, is located north of I-10 and offers 9,000 acres of homes, golf courses, businesses, shopping and dining. Palm Valley is a true mixed-use development and its shopping and dining areas along Litchfield Road has become the heart of shopping and dining in Goodyear. The development brought much needed retail to the Goodyear area with new retail stores opening every month. Some of the larger retail stores already open for business include Target, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Pier 1, Michael’s, Ross, Linen’s ‘N Things and Starbucks. Restaurants in the Center include Macaroni Grill, TGI Friday’s, Applebee’s, Black Angus, On the Border, El Paso BBQ, Cracker Barrel and Macayo’s. In recognition of Goodyear’s tremendous decade long growth, Westcorp, a major mall developer in the Phoenix Metro Area, plans to build the Valley’s next super regional mall at Bullard Avenue and McDowell Road. Construction is to begin within three to five years.

Two other exciting residential communities in which to reside are Pebble Creek and Canyon Trails. Pebble Creek is a resort community for active adults that provides a stunning setting with mountain views. Besides the superb range of housing options, Pebble Creek offers world class amenities including two championship golf courses and two beautiful clubhouses with restaurants, fitness centers, pro shops, swimming pools and a tennis center. Canyon Trails in its design has strived to bring back old-fashioned neighborliness with tree-lined streets, a central park and front porches on many homes. A vast system of walking and biking trails connects the five distinctive neighborhoods and several mini-parks with the trails all converging at a centrally located park.

For employment opportunities, living in Goodyear puts the job seeker in the center of a vast industrial market. The fact that the city the size of Goodyear has more than 185,000 square feet of Class A office space with a lower than average vacancy rates demonstrates the marketability and prestige of this business address. The industrial area around the Phoenix-Goodyear Airport ranks among the Valley’s hottest potential development sports. The airport is the southwestern home of TIMCO, the world’s largest aviation maintenance organization. Lockheed Martin’s one-million square foot facility is adjacent to the airport and adds a strong presence in the aerospace and defense industry for Goodyear. So does the existence of Luke Air Force Base, a mere 10 minutes from Goodyear. In addition to Lockheed Martin, some of the other major employers in the area are: McLane Sunwest, CAVCO, and Rubbermaid. Goodyear’s local history with farming has also attracted several food companies to the city including Poore Brothers, Snyder’s of Hanover, Del Monte Fresh Produce and Southwest Specialty Foods.

For residents of Goodyear, though, life is not only about property taxes and work. Year-round sunshine, warm weather and a dry heat enable residents to enjoy the great outdoors nearly 365 days a year. Several natural and manmade lakes are in the area, as well as structured aquatic activities for children at the Goodyear Swimming Pool in Loma Linda Park. Additionally, the area’s many cultural and fine arts centers, professional sports complexes, college and university campuses, and retail developments have helped redefine social and recreational activity in and around Goodyear.

This city truly is a remarkable place to live, work and play. The best part, though, is Goodyear’s commitment to more growth and expansion will continue to introduce outstanding residential, commercial, retail, industrial and entertainment opportunities to this city for years and years to come. So, if you are looking to move to the greater Phoenix area, look to the west of the city center and discover for yourself the rewarding lifestyle that awaits you in Goodyear.
